Isolation is a source of inspiration for Edmonton-based audiovisual artist Gary James Joynes (a.k.a. Clinker). The geographic immensity of the Canadian Prairies, combined with northern meteorological extremes, provoke a heightened consciousness of his immediate environment. While digital compositional sources direct his work, everyday objects and workings are equally powerful vectors that inform and enrich his numerous collaborations and performances, anchoring him solidly at the heart of the Edmonton scene. His latest project is a logical progression from his Opascope project. Clinker proposes a poetic audiovisual transience whose underlying formal research will draw comparisons with recent works from the Austrian school of video, or the Raster Noton collective headed by Carsten Nicolai.
