Schneider TM (DE)

Dirk Dresselhaus, the soul of Schneider TM, is animated by the desire to strike a balance between indie rock and electronic music. Allergic to being fenced in, he views music as an attempt at escaping the banality of everyday life:'Music is great when it sounds good and when it triggers something deep inside of you. The machine is a natural instrument with which to arrive at a destination, but it's a painful part of the work. The ideal scenario for me would be to have an apparatus hooked up to the brain, in order to capture what we imagine and transform it into sound.'Celebrating a marriage of My Bloody Valentine and Kraftwerk, alternating between little gems of electronic and organic pop, at once playful and sensual, and genuflecting toward more abstract and experimental galaxies, he reflects the essence of a musician enthusiastic about wide stylistic spaces. This is equally true of his concerts, his passionate remixes, and his varying collaborations (with Ilpo Väisänen of Pan Sonic under the pseudonym Angel-also performing at MUTEK within the framework of the Experience 3 program, or Erlend Øye of Kings Of Convenience). On stage, as part of a trio with Michael Beckett (who also produces solo material under the alias kptmichigan) and Christian Obermaier, Schneider TM brilliantly pursues his objective without cynicism: to radically but affectionately reform the rulebook of pop, to create the ideal soundtrack for the modern age.
