Secret Mommy (CA)

A former member of punk outfit d.b.s., Andy Dixon – alias Secret Mommy – is now a glitch/indietronica artist. Dixon has always been deeply committed to and active on the Vancouver underground music scene – running the Ache Records label, among other things. Since 2003, he’s been creating tunes by cutting up recordings – whether samples of popular music or found sounds captured in his environment. His second full-length, Hawaii 5.0, amalgamates clips culled from field recordings made on a trip to the islands, for instance. Perpetually in search of novel sounds, he created his third disc, Very Rec, out of recordings of “organic” sounds made at recreational venues including a tennis court and a dojo. On his latest, Plays, Dixon has shifted to exploring the deconstructive potential of his guitar playing, songwriting and lyrics – but eschewing amplification, in a bid to create an “anti-electronic” electronic album.
