Simon Guibord is a member of the Sulpont collective, based in Hull, QC. With a particular attention to detail, he superimposes competing melodies over digitally generated, malleable sounds. Reserving an important place for error or accidents, his compositions are founded upon complex, yet delicate electronic rhythms. As a composer, Simon plays with diverse influences-sometimes minimal, now and again funky, and occasionally aggressive-to create a contrasting soundscape, where sonic densities evolve through interaction then subside to give way to a more open, exposed environment. If the music sometimes seems to shift toward the mellow, a certain tension always remains; this characteristic nourishes the element of surprise contained within his pieces. Complementing these intricate compositions, Simon Guibord also gravitates toward the world of producing: he assumes production duties for the majority of artists of Sulpont affiliation, and also scores short films and installations by artists in the Outaouais region. For MUTEK's performance, multi-instrumental composer Olivier Fairfield will lend a hand. Active on the dance and contemporary music scenes, Olivier explores the aesthetic of current music with the goal of developing a bespoke blueprint for performances.
