Canadian DebutS.S.S is a trio performing visual music with sensors and gestures. Cecile Babiole, Laurent Dailleau, and Atau Tanaka come together to create a dynamic sound/image environment. A laptop performance that goes beyond purely a work of sound and sight, the intensity of bodies in movement really shines through. Going beyond media, music that is more than a soundtrack, images surpassing the usual video wallpaper role. It’s a three-way conversation modulating sonic and luminous pulse and flow. Cécile BABIOLE is a visual artist known internationally for her synthetic animation images and her interactive installations in public spaces. She’s a regular to Montreal, having participated in the Media Lounge of the FCMM and worked in Montreal with artistic composer Marie Brassard. Laurent DAILLEAU is an uncontestable virtuoso on the theremin. A fixture for several years on the international electronic and improvised music scene, he brings his knowledge of composition to the trio and innate sense of performance. Atau TANAKA is a Japanese-American artist and researcher in the domain of music technology, who resides in France. An innovator, his works have most notably been presented at ZKM, at Ars Electronica and at the ICC Conference. He is not entirely new to the Montreal public, having visited Quebec as part of the group Sensorband. The meeting at the summit of these three artists leads to a multidisciplinary sound/visual project. Their creation is realized right before your eyes: the three soloists maintain a conversation in real time, around which they modulate the flux of sound and light.
