Upbeat (CA)

Michel Lloyd Lefebvre moved from Quebec City to Montreal at the turn of the millennium. In electronic music, he found a means of expression that matched his personality and enabled him to free his creative spirit. Drawing inspiration from the visual arts as well as the urban pulse and other stimulating sounds in his adopted metropolis, he launched his music-making career under the alias Upbeat in 2005. A year later, enthralled by the burgeoning Montreal electronica scene, he started hanging with a number of DJs, and their influence led him to refine the aesthetics of his compositions. Falling into the minimal techno genre, his compositions are textured, beat-driven hookfests, the true dimensions of which are best experienced live. The years 2005 to 2007 have been particularly fecund for Upbeat, who now has a hundred or so pieces in his repertoire and intends to take part in as many electronic music events as possible to maintain his steady upward progress. In 2007, one of Upbeat’s songs was featured on the comp Electronic Washroom, from German Net label Insectorama.
