Aun (CA)

Martin Dumais, alias AUN, has been a mainstay of the Montreal electronic music scene since the 1980s. A well-known producer and DJ, Dumais was also a member of the popular and eclectic electro duo, Les Jardiniers, with Jean-François Charette. After putting Les Jardiniers to rest and DJing throughout in 2006, Dumais created AUN. He has since released six very well received albums for labels like Alien8, Oral and Crucial Blast. AUN is a return to his  roots in experimental, noise and ambient music, from which he evolved in the 80s.

Also very prolific live, the open-ended and experimental nature of AUN has given way collaborations with such artists as Oren Ambarchi and Michel Langevin (Voivod). Langevin, who plays at MUTEK_10 alongside Martin Tétreault, is also handling drum duties on the next AUN full-length, one of several new recordings slated for release before year's end. Dumais also currently heads the Montreal Unsound events, a series of left-field concerts that focus on outsider metal, drone, doom, noise and avant-garde music.

For MUTEK_10, armed with his trademark pink violin and bevy of effects, AUN will be playing recent material, creating walls of crumbling distortion forged into a apocalyptic ambient drift streaked with heavenly cosmic fx, crushing blasts of immolating, hellish symphonies on rusted, scraping strings and celestial electronic whiteout. For the visual portion of this performance, he will be accompanied by Montreal musician and video artist de.i.te.

Expérience 2
MUTEK 2010, montreal

Monument-National 03/06/2010

WORLD PREMIERE

Comprising of Montrealers Martin Dumais and Julie Leblanc, the duo AUN scuplt corrosive tones and textures to create amalgams of audio-visual experience that resemble parallel worlds. Starting with guitar arrangements and found objects, together the pair devises tableaus that are at once dense, luminous, apocalyptic, and charged with pure electricity. Coming off strong recent tours, a grand synergy of improvisational freedom has set over the duo. The audio-visual world premiere of "Black Pyramid" reflects the electronic roots of Aun, which were perhaps less evident in past outings.

CAFÉ ÉLECTRONIKA 2

Hotel Opus 31/05/2007

Martin Dumais, alias AUN, is a mainstay of the Montreal electronic music scene going back to the 1980s. A well-known producer and DJ, Dumais was also a member of Les Jardiniers, a house duo he formed with Jean-François Charette (of New Electric Dog fame). He was formerly the manager of the Hautec label, responsible for releasing the earliest discs by seminal Montreal technauts now enjoying international dancefloor success, among them Akufen, Deadbeat and Champion. The AUN project marks a return to his first love: melodic drones and electro-ambient textures. His most recent album, Mule, is all about introspective, minimalist sonics with industrial leanings, cheek-by-jowl with experimental avant-guitar heroics and melodic timbres that chime beauty and desolation. Employing digital as well as analog hardware as well as acoustic recordings, this is music meant to be performed live, to achieve maximum depth.
