Samiland (CA)

Samiland is what happened when Quebec native Millimetrik (Pascal Asselin) met expatriate Frenchman Monobor (Pascal Pasquier). With Millimetrik in charge of rhythms and Monobor responsible for digital experimentation, they like to create warm and accessible music using unconventional means. For MUTEK, they present a semi-improvised performance– a meeting of intent and happenstance. Monobor plays distorted samples re-sequenced by Pure-Data patches (Pure-Data is a real time, signal processing environment similar to Cycling 74's MAX/MSP). To create his rhythms, Millimetrik samples and digitally treats cymbal sounds. Samiland offers travelers the warmth of their compositions as a means to brave their infamous tempests, in what is a perpetual roundtrip between experimental music and electronica.
