Classically trained David Koch (aka DeWalta) has applied his immersive musical upbringing (French horn, saxophone, piano) to the European house and techno circuit with great success over the past five years. After taking a keen interest in symphonic orchestras and improvisational jazz ensembles at an elite German conservatory, Koch was then turned on to machines, adopting the DeWalta alias to commit body, mind, soul and skill set to jazz-tinged, generously funky house. Together with Fabian Geimer and Jens Krömer, he launched the Meander imprint, through which he released his first EPs. Passionate about the language of instruments and analog/digital hardware, DeWalta intends to reach ears the world over with anything he can get his hands on: Moog synthesizers, vintage electric pianos, drum machines and production software. His eclectic gear groundwork shapes a potent, playful hybrid of jazz, house and hip hop. He has also contributed his instrumental prowess to the works of established Canadian luminaries Deadbeat and The Mole – both longstanding MUTEK alumni.
