27/05/2015A restless, forward thinking producer, Ghislain Poirier has been a pillar and world renowned ambassador of Montréal’s electronic music scene since the early 2000s, spearheading some of the city’s most mythical soirées (Bounce Le Gros, Karnival). The Juno nominated artist has always stayed a few intuitive half steps ahead of the rhythmic herd, consistently expanding minds with a pitch shifting catalogue of synth infused soca, abstracted hip hop permutations, bristling ambience and bass-y electro. With Boundary, an evocative project of electronic chamber music launched in 2013, Poirier comes full circle back to his early career interests in IDM and minimal techno (think Aphex Twin and Plastikman). With two instrumental albums replete with intricate micro variations and sombre, synthetic soundscapes (2013’s self-titled LP and 2014’s Still Life), Poirier has pushed his sound into more conceptual, cinematic and emotionally resonant realms. After world premiering the project during a hypnotic live performance at MUTEK 2013, Poirier returns to the festival with a new, more expansive installment of Boundary, accompanied by drummer Chris Olsen and keyboardist Daniel Thouin.

Ghislain Poirier has been a pillar and world-renowned ambassador of Montreal’s electronic music scene since the early 2000s. A restless, forward-thinking producer, he’s successfully dabbled in synth-infused soca, dancehall, abstract hip-hop and electro. Deeply involved in the city’s nightlife, he’s been responsible for some of Montreal’s most mythical soirees, including the now-defunct Bounce le gros nights, and the ongoing Karnival. Now back with Boundary, a project of dark, cinematic electronic music, Poirier comes full circle, back to his beginnings in experimental ambient, IDM and techno. He explores hard-hitting, minimalist soundscapes where dark timbres and complex rhythms can alter both bodies and minds. For Boundary’s world premiere performance at MUTEK 2013, Poirier will be accompanied by Chris Olsen, with whom he produced the album, on electronic drums.
