Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski first met in Haifa, Israel in the ‘90s as each tinkered with experimental and deep jazz material. These eclectic analogue adventurers then joined forces and moved to Amsterdam in 2003, getting involved in the city’s bustling club scene and releasing various EPs and LPs on respected labels Dekmantel and Golf Channel Recordings, among others. Their volatile sound has proved impossible to pin down: an ambitious, non-linear strand of organic instrumentation paired with synths and drum machine effects, seemingly suspended in time. Even melody and timbre oscillate between dark and heavy, as evidenced on the Unleash The Golem series and the light and playful, Jewsex. Their latest expansive LP, Techno Primitivism, was whittled down from about 20 hours of spontaneous studio jams. They take this penchant for improvisation with them on tour, whether as J&J or Magic Mountain High (a trio with Move D).
