Nocturne 3
MUTEK 2013, montreal

Red Bull Music Academy Stage [SAT] Society for Arts and Technology 01/06/2013

A lifelong advocate for pared-down Detroit techno, Robert Hood is widely regarded as one of the originators of stark, hypnotic minimalism. Hood is a founding member of the revered Underground Resistance crew, with Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, whose seminal output helped change the face of modern techno in the early ‘90s. He has also owned and operated the M-Plan imprint since 1994, providing an outlet for most of his solo material. He has released under many aliases (Monobox, Floorplan, Inner Sanctum), with experimentation and soul practically embedded into his musical DNA. Since relocating to Alabama, he’s made it a point to incorporate social activism into his creative practice. Motor: Nighttime World 3 (2012), his latest concept album, was inspired by his former hometown’s post-industrial collapse. It’s a lush, Hood-proper techno record with spiritual ripples.
