Self-proclaimed hardware scientist David Reynolds has quite a knack for music gear, and this visceral fascination for the finest Rolands, Korgs and Akais feeds his dreamlike, soothing techno stylings. The versatile Vancouver-bred producer toys with drum machines daily as a synth technician, fashions wistful cold-wave compositions with both vintage and modern tools, and performs all-hardware live sets full of glowing minimalism and buoyant melodies as Cloudface. His promising debut Wyre Drive (2012), released on cassette tape, upholds Reynolds’ mystique with its murky, throbbing transistor ripples.
