Baillat Cardell & fils

Baillat Cardell & fils (CA)

Founded in Montreal in spring of 2008, Baillat Cardell & fils is a design firm driven by Jean-Sebastien Baillat and Guillaume Cardell, the company’s co-founders. Together, they combine their desires for sweeping, colourful, original and striking design, using many mediums: custom stationery and printed promotional items, video animation for television or the big screen, visual installations for shows or events, as well as interactive and web creations. The studio has collaborated in the realization of diverse projects such as the Beatles bar in Las Vegas, the 2008 VJ tour of Sasha & John Digweed, the scenography and video content of Ariane Moffat’s show, video boards in Montreal’s Place des Arts Hall, while also showcasing their own video performances in Paris, New York, Mexico and Geneva.

Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) 31/05/2014

Jean-Sebastien Baillat creates organic, rapidly-shifting visuals solo as Baya and in collaboration with cutting-edge Montréal design company Baillat Cardell & fils, co-founded in 2008 with Guillaume Cardell, and known for colourful and striking print, video, web and installation art work. Concerned with sustaining meaningful connections with every audience, from big crowds in public spaces to individuals in a gallery, Baillat Cardell & fils follows original ideas from conception to reality, innovating all the while with new technology. Among numerous projects, Baillat and team have created visuals for Sasha & John Digweed’s 2008 tour, live shows by A-Trak and Senor Coconut, the C2_MTL conference, and MUTEK main stages, including 2013 performances by Robert Hood, Âme, John Roberts and Efdemin. At MUTEK Mexico 2013, Baillat Cardell & fils collaborated with Iregular on Echoes of Absence, an immersive sound visualization project that let visitors converse with its embedded sounds and reactive light array. Later in the year, at MUTEK_IMG in Montreal, they brought The Lazerizer to life, mixing live video with multiple fluctuating lazers over the music of Brooklyn producer ITAL. For EM15, Baya melds fluctuating geometric shapes with organic textures in projections that elevate music to new heights.
