An adventurous free-form house producer for almost 15 years now, Leon Louder has kept an unassuming profile, releasing music that seeks a place where house and live electronic improvisation intersect. Vertigo Inc. sees him using customized machines to create an unexpected, unpredictable and unique sound palette that delivers its own sonic and narrative logic, populated by percussive oddities and eccentric melodies.
A musician, sound designer and at one time an apprentice pipe organ builder, Leon Louder has been making house records since 2003, often relying on his own labels (Melted Dubs and Unfulfillment) to release. For their nods to soul, disco, Chicago house and rhythmic invention, his first issues garnered interest from key players like Fred Everything and a remix from Mark Farina. His discography reveals a particular enthusiasm for sampling: replete with soulful vocals and horns merging with bossa nova beats, acoustic guitar, gamelan sounds and piano licks, which also give way to darker synthesized tones and even break beats. LL’s newest offerings as Vertigo Inc., including two recent self-released 12”s, see him moving into deeper thickets of almost tropical sounding chime and quirky groove.
After late-night sets bent over his custom rig at previous MUTEK events, Vertigo Inc. breezes onto the outdoor stage at the Parterre with a live set of his whimsical and melodic tech house.
Coeur Des Sciences 02/03/2014
Experimental house producer, musician and sound designer Leon Louder has recorded and toured internationally for over 10 years, appearing on Montréal indie labels, Semisquare Music and Kinjo as well as West Coast house label Om (remixed by Mark Farina), among others. LL’s live set draws from a wealth of experience turning adventurous listeners into dance floor enthusiasts – soulful vocals and horns merge with bossa nova beats, acoustic guitar and gamelan sounds give way to darker synthesized artistry and a steady drum-and-bass rhythm, while a piano track glides into hip-hop territory. LL’s newest live offerings as Vertigo Inc. see him following even more unexpected avenues.
