Tom Trago (NL)

Veteran Dutch producer, DJ and label head, Tom Trago has played a key role in mobilizing Holland’s booming house scene ever since Rush Hour released his cult single “Live with the BBQ” in 2006. Having come of age in an artistic household, Trago initially dabbled in instrumental hip hop production, before spending the bulk of his formative years calibrating his bombastic blend of disco, Afrobeat, experimental jazz and techno as an Amsterdam coffee shop DJ. Besides work on film soundtracks and infectious live A/V performances, the Dutchman’s multifaceted discography has established him as a prolific risk-taker and kaleidoscopic collaborator (of peers such as San Proper, Bok Bok and the late Romanthony). Voyage Direct (2009), his critically acclaimed, sample-strong, sparkling disco-house debut, was also the name given to his series of 120 BPM-strong parties as well as his label, which exclusively showcases arpeggiated bass lines of the Dutch variety. His latest record (and upcoming EM15 live debut), entitled The Light Fantastic, finds Trago recapturing the melodic warmth, lush synths and exuberant rhythms of his debut, moving away from sample-heavy percussion in favour of time-tested production work.
