Alain Lefebvre makes abstract experimental noise with amplified objects and lo-fi devices which he pushes beyond their intended use and capabilities. He is interested in using typically unwanted sounds as a means of reconsidering prevailing distinctions between the intrinsically musical and the intrinsically unmusical. He is trained in visual arts but has been making experimental music since 2002. In 2011, he started concentrating on live improvisation, performing principally in Montreal, as well as curating the concert series “We are the Drugs” with Chris Strickland. His first album to contain solely live material, “Objects and Electronics”, was released in 2012 on K.A.N.T.N.A.G.A.N.O.'s Encodages de l'Oubli label. In 2013, he embarked on a yearlong audiovisual collaboration with dancer, choreographer, and video artist, Sonya Stefan. The following year, they performed a part of this work at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art in the context of the Mutek Festival. Since 2012, he has recorded and released two full-length albums with Kohlenstoff Records. His involvement with the label presently continues on an organizational level.
