Jean-Sébastien Truchy & Charles Barabé (CA)

Prolific Montréal-based musician and producer Jean-Sébastien Truchy, former member of Le Fly Pan Am (on Constellation Records) and Set Fire To Flames (on Alien 8), and current member of groups Avec le soleil sortant de sa bouche, Souffle, and Labios, descends on EM15 with an immersive new audio-visual spectacle. As with much of Truchy’s music, the compositional and performative aspects of It’s Blazing Light Invokes The Wisdom Elixir (And They Merge Inseparably) are influenced by cinema and literature, here reflecting the story of wrathful deity Vajrayana and our conflicting relationships with self and the Other, body and mind, and the essence of being. While the music flows between dream-like melodic comforts, synthesizer drones, choral voices, violent outbursts and chaos, filmmaker Charles Barabé creates large-screen, three-projector visuals. In high-contrast-colour and abstract shapes, Barabé interprets both Truchy’s music and the movements of dancers Fanny Savoie and Maude Prud’homme, who perform off-stage during the show, their actions only visible on screen. The project completes a trilogy that began in 2011 with Truchy’s album From Emptiness, on label Los Discos Enfantasmes (created by Truchy, Bernardino Femminielli and Riccardo Lucchesi in 2010), followed by 2012’s Arises the Wind and Fire of Wisdom, on Digitalis.
