MICRO 3 marked the North-American debut of German duo MRI while the most prominent artists of Montreal’s electronic scene share the stage : Jetone, Mitchell Akiyama, Éloi Brunelle, Crackhaus (Deadbeat and Steve Beaupre), Orazio Fantini, Suna, Mateo Murphy and Mike Shannon (DJ set). Organised in collaboration with Force Inc, the evening underlined the launch of the Montreal Smoked Meat compilation album featuring works by some twelve Montreal musicians.
Under the name M.R.I., Frankfurt’s Stephan Lieb and Frank Elting have been recording their remarkable version of minimal house on the Force Tracks label (the dance-floor oriented subdivision of Force Inc.). XLR8R Magazine qualified their music as "minimal techno with supple deep house and dirty funk grooves".
The Montreal Smoked Meat compilation album is the result of the flair of Force Inc. who sensed the forthcoming creative explosion of a group of Montreal musicians sharing a common vision. «Thanks to Montreal's tremendously social environment that includes such prestigious festivals as MUTEK and FCMM, many of the musicians have been able to rise up, achieving international status and thus the community of Montreal has earned the creative credit it so deserves» says Jon Berry, who looks after the evolution of Mille Plateaux/Force Inc’s North-American offices, now located on St-Laurent Blvd in Montreal. Compiled by Alain Mongeau, Artistic Director of MUTEK and Eric Mattson who co-signs the program, Montreal Smoked Meat features 12 titles by Akufen, Jeff Milligan and the MICRO 3 lineup artists. As the first Force Inc. compilation dedicated to a city, Montreal Smoked Meat is distributed internationally.
