(2003-05-31) EXPÉRIENCE 1

Just for Laughs Museum

For over 30 years, whether through installations or music performances, artists have examined and exposed the place of the turntable and record in our culture. Following this tradition, the artists featured in this afternoon program have repositioned the turntable as a fetishized medium, instrument, and art object. While their musical backgrounds and techniques differ, they are all fervent adepts of improvisation. Spectators will be mesmerized by this series of revolving performances that features solos, duos, trios, and even ensemble pieces. Under the direction of Montreal turntablist MARTIN TÉTREAULT, this anthology of free associations will pleasantly surprise even the most jaded listeners, revealing a new turn of inventiveness as the fetish objects of musical commodification are deconstructed and recontextualized.
