Society for Arts and Technology [SAT]
For the first phase of the ARCHI_TEXTURES project, six original performance pieces were commissioned. Each performance has its own structure and its own texture. Taken as a whole, they form an ensemble of modular pieces that have the potential for being assembled according to various combinations.
The first public presentation of the project is divided between two evenings – ARCHI_TEXTURES (I) and (II) – that will take place at the SAT. Each evening presents a course of three performances conceived specifically for the context outlined by the ARCHI_TEXTURES project, complemented by a carefully selected international act.
As an ongoing conceptual lab, ARCHI_TEXTURES highlights the science of adaptation, the performativity of content and context. These are one-of-a-kind evenings: no two events in the series will ever be alike. The richness and the direction of each evening results from the juxtaposition and architectonic interaction between the various components brought together.
**Presented within the New Media section of the FCMM, ARCHI_TEXTURES (1) - the first installation of this series - will be conducted on beat simulation by a handful of Montreal’s most exciting artists and a very special guest from Detroit. The evening begins with THE MOLE’s (Colin de la Plante) deviant take on collage house, followed by ~scape recording artist DEADBEAT (Scott Monteith) who will deliver a set of dub-heavy techno that pays tribute to Kingston as much as it does to Berlin. MUTEK_REC recording artists EGG (Guillaume Coutu-Dumont and Julien Roy) will take the treatment to cuts from their debut album Don’t Postpone Joy. Visual de/constructions for this first segment of the evening will be assumed by NANALOG (GabrielCD, Mathieu St-Arnaud, David Fafard). Guest artist MATTHEW DEAR (Plus 8/Ghostly/Perlon) then plans to turn up the energy levels several notches with a live set of infective minimal techno, and hometown favourite AKUFEN (Marc Leclair) will cap off the evening with one of his patented DJ set.
ARCHI_TEXTURES(1) is made possible due to the support of its partners. MUTEK warmly thanks its co-producer, the Montreal International Festival New Cinema New Media, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Canada Council for the Arts, Musicaction, EX-CENTRIS, Montreal Mirror/ICI Montréal, SAT - SOCIETE DES ARTS TECHNOLOGIQUES, the MCAUSLAN BREWERY, CKUT and XLR8R.
