MUTEK presents MICRO 10
Friday, November 26th, 9pm, at the Just For Laughs Museum
Montreal: Tuesday, November 16th, 2004—MUTEK is pleased to present the tenth MICRO_MUTEK event on Friday, November 26th, beginning at 9pm at the Just for Laughs Museum (2111 St. Laurent Blvd.). Continuing to build on its tradition of bringing you quality artists and new sonic discoveries, MUTEK invites you to its lone event for fall 2004 reuniting the following Quebecois and French artists: JULIEN ROY, LENA, MOSSA, duo COPACABANNARK and video collective NANALOG.
Kick starting the MICRO_10 evening will be the latest creations from electronic artist Julien Roy, one half of the Montreal duo EGG. Having released his debut album just a year ago on the MUTEK_REC label, Julien Roy is known for employing various digital tools to create the sound that defines his playful, spirited performances. The French ambassador of dub, LENA, is next to capture the audiences’ attention. This former student of the Beaux-Arts, for whom the investigation of sound is not without the exploration of space, offers those in attendance the chance to awaken their senses by succumbing to the melodies and the pulsations of silence. Subsequently, the sound scales will tip toward the jovial with MOSSA, founder of Complot Records. Using sound samples he’s collected from anywhere and everywhere filtered through his minimalist, entertaining style, MOSSA’s performances are always highlighted by the unexpected. To finish off the evening, two discoveries from MUTEK 2002, ARK and CABANNE, return to Montreal as an explosive alliance: COPACABANNARK. Two artists from the school of French minimalist sound brought together through collaboration with the Perlon label for the record “Copacabannark,” Ark and Cabanne will share with us their diverse influences by dishing out frenzied rhythms for all to enjoy. The video scenography of the event will be assumed by the Montreal trio NANALOG, who contributed to the last edition of the MUTEK festival during one of the evenings at the Metropolis
MICRO 10 is made possible by the support of the Consulat général de France à Québec, Ex-Centris, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, VIA Rail Canada, ICI Montréal/Montreal Mirror, MOOG Audio, MISTO restaurant, McAuslan Brewing, GURU, and CKUT.
