ASKAA 2 (PERFORMANCE)
Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal
For asKaa two translucent, venated screens are rooted in the floor (both literally and figuratively) on either side of the room. Tendrils and filaments of light blossom onto the screens hovering above the viewer giving an impression of sentience to the slightly threatening carnivorous presences. The growth of these ephemeral flowers of light, as with their natural counterparts, is governed by both their innate programming (be it digital or DNA) and the intrusion of chance and outside intent upon their growth and existence. Here chance takes the form of sound artists invited to perform audio interventions using synaesthetic technology. Their interventions trigger divergent growth patterns that impact the form of the luminescent botany.
