How do you paint a sound? How do you listen to an image? This second Ex-Centris installment specifically dedicated to contemporary audiovisual creation showcases four artists who, over the last few years, have revealed a true mastery of their tools while adroitly recognizing the specificity of their craft. With attention on the sources of acoustic waves and video signals, this line-up proposes a series of combinations that slide progressively toward a more perverse confrontation between organic agents, computerized sonorities, and digital noises. Leading off with a subdued atmosphere installed by Akumu, the cinematographic propositions from Italian Martux_M follows suite like a haven for the serene and the tense, proceeding the highly anticipated conceptual projections from Bas van Koolwijk. By way of involuntary data streams found on televisions, this Dutch artist has in fact developed an essentially digital aesthetic inspired by geometry and the knowledge of colours, exposing an intense work where sounds and images vigorously interact.
