SIDLEE presents PICTOPLASMA: CONTEMPORARY CHARACTER DESIGN AND ART
In recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of a new visual culture. As urban art or commercial campaign, figurative installation or designer object - characters are making their mark on various contexts.Since 1999, Pictoplasma's goal is to free graphical character representation from commercial intentions and the popular psychology of story telling, while linking a new breed of character design to the birth of a language beyond all cultural boundaries. Besides publishing books and DVD's on the topic, organising the biannual Pictoplasma Conference and curating international exhibitions, Pictoplasma hosts the annual Characters in Motion Animation Festival in Berlin (a selection from this festival is presented at the beginning of the NOCTURNE 1 program, Wednesday May 30th, 10PM, at the SAT. In this presentation, Pictoplasma founders will present their work and discuss different approaches and tendencies of contemporary character design.
