In a viral online world, the distribution of recorded music and the promotion of recorded music are increasingly one and the same.  How do labels and artists distribute music for sale when the current standard calls for the music itself to be used – for free – for promotional purposes?  The looming question that emerges out of this new model is stark and simple: how do the current makers of music grow in a domain where the line between promoting and distributing music is gone. Huge promotional communities like MySpace and have become a central asset for record companies both large and small, but how does the music industry translate all this exposure into sales?  This panel will explore whether the online promoters of music are part of the new distribution model, and what distribution means in the 21st century. presented by:
