Panel 3: Hooked on Classics
A 1981 mashing of well known classical passages with disco beats still stands as one of the more enduring jokes and awkward moments in genre mixing, perhaps ever. Since Hooked on Classics, the compositional process and computing, has come a long way. Music in general continues to be fundamentally transformed by digitisation and digital media, and the cross-pollination of genres has finally transcended novelty. This roundtable explores the relationship between the orthodoxy of classical training and knowledge, and the new forms, aesthetics and musical practices that arise from digital tools and processes. What are the challenges and potentials of melding these worlds and approaches?
