The Visible City will be the 2015 work theme of the Connecting Cities Network, which will publish an open call for artistic projects in autumn 2014, to be produced and presented in the participating cities in 2015.
The Visible City topic explores the idea of societal flows and processes to be analyzed and visualized on media infrastructures in the public space through the use of data generated by digital sensor networks, and other invisible infrastructures that underlie our daily lives. This panel will address several related questions, dealing with the strategies of data visualization -- as much as the idea of empowerment and facilitating citizens’ agency, versus the fear of creating structures of control and surveillance.
