☼ Sarah Hennies • Stephanie Castonguay • Riot Pousse ☼
Sarah Hennies is a composer based in upstate New York whose work is concerned with a variety of musical, sociopolitical, and psychological issues including Queer & Trans identity, love, intimacy, psychoacoustics, and percussion. She is primarily a composer of small chamber works but, is also active in improvisation, film, performance art, and dance.
Driven by experimentation, Castonguay investigates electronic audio circuitry as a physical process and phenomenon that leaves a palpable, audible trace. Her approach to sound and DIY electronics is playful, practical and organic: she disassembles and re-purposes small, obsolete, barely audible machines to reveal the resonance, glitches and random sounds unexpectedly hidden within. She is a member of the artist center Perte de Signal.
Riot Pousse is an experimental performance duo featuring vocalists Elizabeth Lima and Sarah Albu. Simultaneously, it takes multiple forms: a band; a noise duo; musical theater à la Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand; a series of vignettes; a live-action surrealist infomercial; a DIY experimental riot grrrl-inspired opera - proposing a dark, trashy and humorous collection of scenes and reflections on being female bodies and sound-makers in a contemporary cityscape.
