MUTEKLIVE014 - Mathew Jonson

Live @ MUTEK Montréal 2005

The fourteenth installment of the podcast revisits Mathew Jonson's live set from 2005, and happens to find the Wagon Repair head honcho at the top of his game, mixing together a veritable 76-minute hit parade of his biggest tracks and more.

Jonson is no stranger to MUTEK's stages, having come up with festival as so many of Canada's biggest producers have done over the past ten years.  He first performed for us back in 2003 as part of a MICRO_MUTEK line-up that now reads as a whose-who of Canada's best -- along for the night were Mike Shannon, Guillaume Coutu-Dumont (as one-half of EGG), The Mole, Deadbeat (as one-half of Crackhaus), and Champion.  Without reserve, all have gone on to bigger and better things, and for Mathew Jonson, this 2005 set offered a bit of a victory lap after the massive international sucess of his Decompression EP on M_nus.

Jonson will be coming back this year to help us celebrate our tenth, and he'll be performing twice.  First time out sees his going up against Dandy Jack for a live showdown that's one of several NOCTURNE 4 centerpieces.  Then he'll take the stage again at Sunday night's closing event, as a member of The Modern Deep Left Quartet.

If this 2005 set is any indication, the Mathew Jonson live experience is not one to miss.
