The MUTEK Cabaret
The last time the globetrotting ISEA - the International Symposium on Electronic Art - landed in Canada was in Montréal in 1995 when the future founder and current director of MUTEK, Alain Mongeau, presided over the artistic component of the event.
This August, MUTEK is proud to participate in ISEA’s 21st edition in Vancouver with a series of stunning audiovisual performances from Québec artists, under the name of The MUTEK Cabaret. This title deliberately recalls and echoes The Electronic Cabaret, one component of the ISEA 95 Montréal program that had been presented at the now defunct Spectrum, and had offered first glimpses in North America of avant garde digital work such as Modell 5 by Austrian duo GRANULAR SYNTHESIS.
On Sunday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 18, a delegation of established and emerging audiovisual and experimental sound practitioners from Québec will present work at Vancouver's Wong theatre, thus bridging ISEA’s past and present and connecting the creative scenes from Canada’s East and West coasts.
