Nocturne 4: 10 Years of Hyperdub + RBMA Stage
La/2 de Nitsa
Artists Kode9 and Laurel Halo have put in multiple appearances within the MUTEK network over the years, becoming festival favourites for their groundbreaking performances. Appearing as part of a special 10 Years of Hyperdub showcase, Halo will perform in support of her latest album Chance of Rain (Hyperdub, 2013), while label head Kode9 will continue to explore the hardcore continuum through one of his famed DJ sets. Labelmate Scratcha DVA joins the night, pushing UK funky’s rhythmic patterns to the extreme and bringing a chaotic tilt to the dancefloor with sounds from his most recent release Mad Hatter EP, described by DVA himself as a little “WTF”.
Red Bull Music Academy sets-up a special stage with several of their alumni. Canadian Ghislain Poirier, brings his recently debuted Boundary project, of dark, cinematic electronic music, exploring hard-hitting, minimalist soundscapes. Navigating the paths between dreampop and landscape electronica, beGun, spins off a trail of acclaimed performances including Sonar, Primavera Sound and Boiler Room.
The two acts are joined by We Like Turtles, a duo of childhood friends who have shared their love of dance music via a trajectory starting from DJing at friends’ parties, to appearing in clubs across the city, to producing their own music. Local DJ Shelby Grey, who dazzled with his exquisite selection at the last Soiree MUTEK event of 2013 in support of Lee Gamble and Ikonika, also plays the night.
