Plug Research to reprint Flying Lotus’ debut LP on limited vinyl
March 15, 2012
L.A beat-seer and Brainfeeder label boss Flying Lotus has seen his star ascend at a pretty dizzying rate over the last half-decade.
2008′s Los Angeles, and latterly 2010′s sprawling Cosmogramma, built a following large enough to push Stephen Ellison to the top of critical charts and festival bills. Fans not yet acquainted with his earlier work now have an extra imperative to become so. Later this month, Plug Research will reissue Ellison’s 2006 debut 1983 on limited edition coloured vinyl.
1983 is certainly ruder than Ellison’s later works, and the Dilla-debt is fairly conspicuous throughout. But there are also some great moments and wonderfully skewed soundscapes to enjoy. No bonus features or easter eggs, but you do get the chance to experience an underrated LP that shows one of music’s more adventurous space cadets finding his muse. 1983 will emerge on March 19, courtesy of Plug Research. Flying Lotus’ upcoming fourth LP, provisionally titled Until The Quiet Comes, is expected later this year. [via FACT Magazine]
