Montréal-based Maotik & Metametric is the kinetic combined force of musician and producer Jean-François Pedno (Metametric) and digital artist Mathieu Le Sourd (Maotik). Pedno lends his background as a percussionist for orchestras and chamber music ensembles, a composer for theatre, dance and film, and as a solo electroacoustic musician exploring realms beyond dub, glitch and experimental techno to their meeting. Mathieu Le Sourd is a master of generative visuals for interactive installations and multimedia performances, he designs his own audiovisual tools to create real-time immersive experiences such as DROMOS presented at MUTEK 2013. After performing their micro rhythmic, minimalist A/V experiment Durations at EM15 last year, Maotik & Metametric continue their creative associations with Omnis, which makes its Canadian premiere at MUTEK 2015. Following impressive recent displays at Barcelona’s Mira, London’s BFI Digital Québec, Lima’s Visiones, MUTEK Mexico and several other festivals around the world, the duo’s latest immersive sensorial work is inspired by the concept and technological reality of ubiquity – Omnis uses a generative visual system, multiple degrees of optical illusion, and distortion of the performance space to destabilize the environment and explode the idea of being everywhere at the same time.

Omnis is a live A/V performance, which takes its inspiration from the concept of ubiquity – the capacity of being everywhere at the same time. New technologies are affecting today's changes of human life; the capability of transferring informations instantaneously all over the world dramatically modifies our perception of space, time and relationships. Our contemporary society splits distance sizes and removes time scales to keep only the tiniest time, the “here and now”. (30 min).

Since the early 1990s, prolific composer Jean-François Pedno has dabbled in a plethora of vastly dissimilar musical worlds. He has scored over 40 theatre, dance and film productions. Before his solo electroacoustic work first attracted attention abroad in 2000, Pedno was already known as an esteemed chamber-music player, percussionist, and improv musician. In 2002, he released his first electronic album under the Jeff Nô moniker. This was followed in 2010 by Durations, as Metametric. At once granular techno and electroacoustic fever dream, Durations consists of loose reworkings of 20th century indeterminate music pioneer Morton Feldman’s Durations 1-5. For this live rendering of Durations at EM15, Pedno will manipulate percussive sounds and melodies, synchronizing the tampered audio bits with generative, geometric visuals on a panoramic screen. Sharing an interest in how time and space are perceived, Pedno collaborated with visual artist Mathieu Le Sourd (Maotik/Dromos) whose audioreactive geometries perfectly complement the granulation of the sounds.
