Their fashionably spelled moniker suggests an even-steven duality between amped grooves and deep listening moods, which this Vancouver duo deliver in intricately woven increments. Sam Beatch (of Plays:four) and Sebastian Davidson’s subversive tempos are meticulously produced and gleefully dismantled, creating the kind of stylized sound design that’s at once psychedelically house-y and infectiously ambient. After building a strong local following with their tension triggering live exercises in maximalism/minimalism, digital/analog and consonance/dissonance, they released their unhinged, playfully percussive cassette tape debut, Rubber Sole (2015) on rapidly rising Vancouver imprint 1080p. Microscopic sampled recordings and vast swaths of customized synths add up to a holy harmony of bloopy textures, to be savoured both on the couch and on the move. MUTEK welcomes this fledgling West Coast outfit for its first out-of-province appearance since releasing its filtered melodic wobbles into the wild.
