Valérie has been Director of the Element AI Research Group in Montréal since October 2017. Before joining the Element AI team, Valérie was Director of Partnerships for the The Institute for Data Valorization: a scientific and economic data science hub, which brings together more than 900 scientists to economically and socially develop data of all origins and forms. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal in Environmental Modelling. Her career began as a researcher in the field of life cycle analysis, a powerful tool modelling the potential impact of human activities on our environment. Later she was Director of CIRAIG, the International Reference Centre for the Life Cycle of Products, Processes and Services, and co-founder and Director of CIRODD, an interdisciplinary centre concerned with sustainable development. Working with researchers in optimization and mathematics to solve environmental problems, she is convinced that our ability to generate, analyze and enhance data, will change the world. She defines herself as a tech-eco-geek and looks to the future with optimism and wonder.
