Scott Monteith, best known by his Deadbeat moniker, keeps a frenetic pace. Hailing from Kitchener, Ontario, he spent a few years sharpening his focus in Montreal before taking up residence in Berlin. Since the early aughts, he has produced countless EPs as well as seven studio albums for standout labels such as ~Scape, Echocord and Wagon Repair. His two latest projects, Drawn & Quartered (2011) and Eight (2012), arrived on BLKRTZ, an imprint he founded and which is distributed by German giant, Kompakt. Eight, his latest, is a snaillike sonic excursion, where sounds are subjected to intense internal mutations and metamorphoses. It’s at once soft and hard – a perfect pairing of dub aesthetics and techno thumps. A festival regular from the earliest days, and a master of live performance technique, Deadbeat returns to share his latest low end frequency research.
