Manchester-based producer Andy Stott has been refining his dub-oriented, atmospheric techno over the course of three singular albums - Merciless in 2006, Unknown Exception, in 2008 and Luxury Problems in 2012 - all released on Modern Love. After first cutting his teeth churning out harder edged grooves in the nineties, Stott earned near-unanimous plaudits for the slow-moving, bleary-eyed, infectious house snippets at play on the masterful Luxury Problems, one of the year’s best, according to Resident Advisor and Pitchfork. The album also features the haunted vocal stylings of his former piano teacher Alison Skidmore, rendered beautifully by pairing her echoey vocal fragments to hypnotic grooves. Stott also records under the Andrea moniker for Modern Love sublabel, Daphne. He also regularly collaborates with Miles Whittaker (of Pendle Coven and Demdike Stare), with whom he taps into a shared love for low-end frequencies, as Millie & Andrea.
