If you hit the road with g-funk only to change lanes with punk/noise, taking a detour through trip hop and experimental hip hop’s West Coast route along the way, you only have one possible destination: Nosaj Thing. The musical journey embraced by this young Pasadena producer has given rise to the sublime sound we recognize as his. Honing his musical chops at the legendary Low End Theory space in Los Angeles – where he rubbed shoulders with Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk and 12th Planet – Nosaj Thing caught serious attention with his debut Drift (2009) on Alpha Pup Records. Jason Chung further cemented his reputation, with his second record Home (2013), which takes after his layered debut masterpiece while carving out a more intimate space, including pop digressions from vocalists Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) and Chaz Bundick (Toro Y Moi). A gleeful live performer and MPC virtuoso, Nosaj Thing has been known to leave audiences slack-jawed with his skills.
