The second part of audiovisual trilogy – Euphorie, Crise, Récession, Crise is live electronic theatre that confronts our global economic crisis with bright neons, lo-fi tools and household gadgets, and a sprawling cardboard scenery magnified via video mapping. The 1024 architecture collective stages playful urban interventions and ephemeral AV installations that survey the space between high and low-tech, sound and visuals, art and architecture. Among the collective’s most high-profile projects are, Étienne de Crécy’s kaleidoscopic Cube (as EXYZT), and Vitalic’s, VTLZR live show. In Crise, performers François Wunschel and Fernando Favier, play two newly jobless businessmen on the brink, whose toxic resentment of credit crunches and cracks in the system comes alive through the inspired interplay of light and sound projections. Making its North American premiere at MUTEK, Crise, modeled after TED’s motto of “ideas worth spreading,” chooses the apt, “FED – worst ideas spreading,” to sum up its apocalyptic microcosm.
