An encyclopedic, time-lapse exploration of more than 100,000 photographs captured over the course of a lifetime, memento mori plays out as a polyphonic and visually pulsating meditation on (im)mortality and the fleeting nature of human memory. This awe-inspiring, extrasensory photomontage melds fragmented image snippets according to various experiences, with subjects and dreams in constant flux, while the prescient soundtrack layers atop rhythmic compositions and a slew of spectral archival recordings (shortwave radio broadcasts, indigenous folk music and Marshall McLuhan lectures among them). Acclaimed Toronto multimedia artist Dan Browne, who promotes an interdisciplinary approach to cinema, won the Jury Prize for Best Canadian Work at WNDX Festival of Moving Image 2012, for memento mori. Electronic musician and sound designer Dan Driscoll (a.k.a. aria/quirk), as well as dub producer/DJ Steve Richman (a.k.a. zum one/zum1), join Browne for the world premiere, live, AV performance of memento mori.
