Intent on dismantling the dichotomies of sound and image and digital and organic, Hugues Clément employs glitch, 3D modelling and graphic interventions in playful, poetic ways. He deftly manipulates images into visual collages both strange and inviting, destabilizing recognizable sights in the natural world or urban spaces with electronic stutters and unexpected digital data forms.

Informed by studies in electroacoustics and compositional work for the theatre and contemporary dance, Clément approaches his visuals with artistic deliberation and a playful eye for graphic juxtapositions – from decontextualized caverns and constructed Icelandic landscapes to a myriad of dancing, shifting forms. Clément has brought his A/V performance, mapping and design projects, VJ sets and installations to various events in North and South America, Europe and Asia, including MUTEK and Igloofest, MADATAC in Spain and Circle Of Light/Moscow Light Festival in Russia. After blowing minds in 2015 with his audiovisual collage Dichotomie and a VJ set exploring the abstract possibilities of 3D modelling, Clément returns to MUTEK this year with visuals for Mexican genre-mixer SIETE CATORCE and Montréal artist MAGNANIME.
