International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music
NOCTURNE 2 on Thursday night transports us into distinctive and engrossing audio worlds. Montréal-based classically trained musician, composer and digital interventionist KARA-LIS COVERDALE returns to MUTEK with her emotionally resonant music in the larger venue of the MAC. Mexican sound artist LAURA LUNA who employs motors and mechanisms, pedals and processors to elicit her emotive soundscapes — and the psychoacoustic synthesizer sounds of SARAH DAVICHI add to the universe of aural delights. Things turn intense and immersive with Italian producer LORENZO SENNI who deconstructs trance into fractured sound and light with his electrifying AAT performance. And following on the release of his new album Love Streams, Canadian electronic musician and sound artist TIM HECKER unleashes a sensorial beast of a performance with fog effects and bold lighting designed by MFO.
The BWR black box turns into a sonic laboratory with performances from Paris-based producer Jackson Fourgeaud aka JACKSON who manipulates tailor-made metal instruments and their prisms of light into dark technoid drones, electric hums and ethereal melody in experimental performance Light Metal Music. Renowned ‘audiocinetic’ sculptor HERMAN KOLGEN reprises his earth shaking SEISMIK project which features new material and new vibrations. Also showcased: the electroacoustic multi-rhythmic inclinations of Montréaler SIMON CHIOINI; the improvised modular synthesis and laptop trio: Karl FOUSEK, Devon HANSEN and Roger TELLIER-CRAIG; and Roll the Dice member and general experimentalist PEDER MANNERFELT unveils a new audiovisual performance.
