International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music
NOCTURNE 4 on Saturday partners with British festival Bloc to shine a festival light on emergent underground insurgents: London producer POWELL, also previously featured at Bloc, debuts a live set of his raw, riffy, dirty body music; Brooklyn, now Berlin-based hardware enthusiast producer TEREKKE lays down a performance of his L.I.E.S. endorsed smudgy house and hazy dub; understated raphouse phenom and no frills techno artist GALCHER LUSTWERK offers up an enthralling hybrid live/DJ experience; and Montréal musician Marie Davidson and producer Pierre Guerineau magnetize as ESSAIE PAS, following their recent release on DFA with a live hardware set of punk styled electro-techno.
Meanwhile underground, the basement teems with experimental beats and un-beats. Local duo Félix-Antoine Morin and Maxime Corbeil-Perron seek transcendence through live analog modular and digital synthesis, invented wind instruments and traditional balinese percussion as POLITICAL RITUAL; local quartet QUADR create a theatre of modified, bowed and sounded bicycle wheels, whose triggering bathes the performers in audio reactive visuals; British artist SPATIAL attends to his bass heavy, post-rave beat inclinations; Polish group T'IEN LAI mix live percussion, electronics and a chaos of musical styles into near dervishes; and Mexico’s WHITE VISITATION doles out intense bursts of beat.
