Delightfully analogue and mostly instrumental, Toboggan joyrides through trippy, hooky basslines, languid IDM, dashes of UK garage, global percussion and videogame soundtracks on his way home.
A native Montréaler, rigorous music lessons led Martin down a path toward computer-based music production and early fun with Fruity Loops. Toboggan debuted in 2010 with the embers of a childhood of piano instruction still smouldering in the background of his sound. Sometimes pensive and introspective his music always exudes an ebullience and warmth, with more explicit moods drawn out by occasional guest vocalists (including several collaborations with Brooklyn-based R&B singer Rowan Spencer). His tracks have earned support from BBC’s Mary Anne Hobbs, Line Of Best Fit and XLR8R. His latest album Shuriken is released in tandem with a virtual experience designed by Martin with assistance from susy.technology’s Teo Zammudio.
Always in season, Martin brings his Toboggan to play a live set of his whimsical productions on the outdoor stage Saturday afternoon.
