Dark, lurching, slow-stepping quasi-techno strewn with splintered fragments of R&B, hip hop, modern classical composition and electronic Giallo stylings, Lotic mines the hidden caverns of gritty, urban life and the deep, dark abyss of the mind, his expansive and cinematic sound underpinned by constant tension, punctuated with contorted stabs of pummelling, fractured rhythm.
Growing up in Houston, Texas Morgan moved to the more liberal hub of nearby Austin to study Computer Music & Composition. He eventually found himself moving to Berlin by chance in 2012 when his now ex-boyfriend landed himself a job with Ableton. A resident DJ at Berlin sex-club Ficken 3000 and a founding member of Berlin’s Janus Collective famous for throwing alternative parties and experimental releases that often run contrary to the city’s techno establishment. An invasion of the senses, his music explores the beauty in the worn, the damaged and the crumbling, finding redemption in the dark underside of urban life. At times erotic, at others replete with paranoia, his music veers from a sense of manic euphoria to creeping dread.
Lotic brings his angular, polymorphic and dramatic performance to MUTEK as a representative of his adopted city's provocative impulses, on the CTM festival-curated Berlin stage.
