Cities are places defined as much by their cartographies and built environments as the feelings and mythologies they evoke. Immortalized in music, art, literature and film, ideas about cities are not only formed at a conscious level; they are also a product of unconscious desires and imaginaries — what Guy Debord described as a “psychogeography.” This series of panels gathers artists and creatives who represent a current, lived experience in their city, and those who have a view from Montréal, either as expats, past or future residents. The discussion seeks to illuminate artistic subjectivities and creative practices within the stimulating environments that urban settings engender and explore the ways imagination shapes a city — and how a city shapes imagination.
