Korea Town Acid - live studio performance

Using an experimental and purely improvised approach to samplers and synths, Korea Town Acid’s expansive and cerebral rhythms sit at the juncture of dubby house, free-jazzy techno and funky ambient territories. Hypnotic compositions are dextrously assembled as skittering, slowly billowing technicolour synth jolts.

Building on the momentum of childhood piano lessons and teenage stints as a keyboardist in various bands, Korean-born, Toronto-based producer, musician and DJ Jessica Cho took a liking to improvisation through jazz and hip-hop. Her early career cuts of abstracted house were indebted to Korean folk, experimental hip-hop and even R&B. Alongside otherworldly solo work under a number of aliases, the versatile performer was half of live duo CHOBO and house music production team Vision of Paradise, releasing tracks on labels such as Toronto’s Arachnidiscs, Berlin’s Toy Tonics and Bulgaria’s Secret Jams. Mahogani Forest, the title of her debut EP as Korea Town Acid, is inspired by the futuristic Korean fantasy film Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds.

Named one of NOW Magazine’s electronic musicians to watch at the top of the year, Korea Town Acid has been creating a buzz on the Toronto circuit with her timelessly cosmic live sets. After performing as part of her hometown’s NANO MUTEK event in July, Cho brings her glitchy and expressive eclecticism to the Montréal stage.
