With its shapeshifting ever-quickening pulse, softcoresoft's squelching, energetic acid and raved-up techno moves between industrial bass, melodic electro, break beat and dancehall, made to be experienced live.
Trandafir's DJ and producer life took off in 2015 as a Discwoman collaborator in Montréal and Brooklyn—this year Discwoman invited her to make her own mix (#39), showcasing her love of mid-'90s techno, electro and broken beat styles. In collaboration with Montréal producer Devon Hansen as electronic duo Demora, she creates grit-addled, moody high-fi techno. With rave collective Lagom she worked with Danji Buck-Moore (anabasine) and Dominique Alexander (Buffalo MRI) in the fall of 2017 to curate and self-release the 43-track benefit compilation Power Puerto Rico. Each month, Trandafir hosts Ravelength on Montréal-based online radio station n10.as, showcasing mainly women-identified producers and selectors through guest mixes and interviews that have features. Live, she taps into her investigative relationship with hardware to expose new fusions of techno, electro, acid, breaks and trance. She's recently played Berlin's Urban Spree, Polygon, Barcelona's LAUT, Norway's International Bergen Festival, Montréal's Piknic Électronik, Igloofest, Never Apart and POP Montréal.
softcoresoft opens undiscovered avenues for her own machines' sounds with a new live set made for the Red Bull Music Hors Circuit outdoor stage on Sunday.
