Refined and stealthily suggestive grooves and syncopated sonic realms that gently pull you in before revealing the full breadth of their dramatic modulations—Vedren’s cinematic tech-house oscillates between the crackling and the velvety, steeped in theory but also instinctively drawn to the call of infectious rhythms.
Having first played in a jazz funk formation before training as a sound engineer and then working on his own material, Parisian musician, producer and DJ Ben Vedren long operated at a safe distance from the French capital’s techno bubble. When he began exclusively working on his bands, art projects and productions, his talent with machines quickly secured him a spot as resident DJ at Paris’s Club Concrete. A career milestone was winning a Beatport remix competition of Carl Craig’s Bug In A Bassbin in 2012, which was then released on Craig’s Planet E. He collaborates with Chicago house pillar Chez Damier under the name H2H (Heart 2 Heart), with whom he co-produced last year’s Perlon113 alongside Ricardo Villalobos. He recently launched Reduce Records with partner in crime Leiris, with whom he records under the alias Monkey Nenufar. The additional projects he has taken on include an installation for Nuit Blanche Paris, a sound and light show at the Grand Palais and a sound journey at Rome’s Villa Medici. A certified Ableton Live trainer, Vedren also shares his knowledge of music production with anyone hoping to sharpen their technical skills through French association Technopol.
A key player in Paris’s current wave of electronic rebirth and effervescence, Vedren brings his hypnotic live action and minimal sound design to the festival’s open-air stage.
